Whole-School Training Options
The training encouraged us to have a good quality professional dialogue about subject knowledge and pedagogy.
A range of whole school training courses can be delivered as INSET days or across a series of twilights. These courses draw on Cognitive Acceleration pedagogy and relevant research into what works in the classroom. They also offer a reflective approach to the improvement of teachers’ practice. Some of the courses can be focused on English, Maths or Science but all develop teacher skills that have cross-curricular application.
The following whole school training options are available:
- Thinking skills for the most able: using a problem solving and investigative approach to challenge gifted students;
- Creating a questioning classroom: make your questions more effective and encourage students to pose questions that develop their thinking;
- Talk, listen, learn: how quality classroom dialogue and discussion enables students to learn through talk and improves attainment in speaking and listening;
- Collaborative learning: using mixed ability groupwork to construct and embed learning for students;
- Thinking skills for the Early Years: using thinking skills activities to support progression through and classroom observation for the EYFS profile;
- Fostering independence: how to create a classroom culture that encourages the development of independent learning skills for students;
- Unpicking mathematical misconceptions: enabling teachers to diagnose difficulties and reconstruct deep mathematical understanding for special needs students;
- Lesson study: developing teachers as reflective practitioners through peer observation;
- Smoothing transition from Foundation Stage to Year 1: activities to support the social, emotional and cognitive development of children at this key transition point;
